Hideo Kojima, creator of the successful Metal Gear Solid franchise, has confirmed that MGS 4 is coming, and he will be taking a less hands-on approach this time around.

Talking at a Berlin press event this week, Kojima stated that he was passing on the production duties to Kenichiro Imaizumi, whilst he would move upstairs to take on executive producer status. Speaking of the forthcoming title, Imaizumi said they (the development team), “want to feature a fresh, intriguing storyline and gameplay plus captivating graphics and more features while remaining true to the core of the MGS series – remaining Solid.” Nice soundbite there, Ken.

No gameplay details, nor indeed platform or release date were announced, and although the history of the franchise would suggest falling into bed with the Playstation once more (the PAL release of MGS3 is on Friday), with Microsoft making a concerted effort to secure some Eastern talent, don’t rule out an appearance on the next Xbox.

We’ll have more news as it breaks.
