A next-gen re-release of Crysis 1, 2 and 3 is a possibility, Crysis 3’s producer Michael Read has suggested, telling VideoGamer.com that such a thing would be a “cool idea”.
“This has been brought up a lot,” Read told VideoGamer.com, when asked whether Crytek had considered re-releasing a maxed-out version of the Crysis trilogy on next-gen consoles. “I’ve had a bunch of other people ask. It would be a cool idea to see something like that.
“I haven’t heard anything about that internally but I have had a lot of people asking about that. I think if enough people are crying out and going, ‘Hey, let’s see something’, then you know, that may just end up being awesome.”
Crysis 3 is due to release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on Friday, February 22. The PC version, CEO Cevat Yerli claims, looks “two levels beyond” anything previously released on console.
“Crysis 3 is absolutely maxing out the consoles,” Yerli told VideoGamer.com in December. “There is absolutely not even 1% left.”
But despite the differences between the console and PC versions, Yerli maintains that “no game will ever look technically better than Crysis 3 on [Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3].
“Most games are not even anywhere near Crysis 2 technically,” he continued. “I’m not talking about art style – art is subjective – but the pure fact of what we have been cramming in with Crysis 2 on Xbox [360] and PlayStation [3], I’ve yet to see a game do that still today.”
He continued: “Any day I will take a battle against Gears and Halo, whatever, the amount of data we put in and the detail level is far superior. With Crysis 3 we’re pushing that to another level, but the PC is just two levels beyond.”
