Nex Machina is the new top-down action shooter from Housemarque (Resogun, Dead Nation) and arcade legend Eugene Jarvis (Defender, Robotron and Smash TV), coming to PS4 in Q2 2017.

“A few months after the release of Resogun we bumped into Eugene Jarvis at DICE Summit 2014, where he received a Pioneer award for his contribution to the gaming industry,” explained Mikael Haveri, Head of Self-Publishing at Housemarque. “Eugene, creator of arcade cult classics such as Defender, Robotron and Smash TV, has always been one of our major sources of inspiration for the kind of games we are famous for.

“You can see Eugene’s invisible hand in the gameplay of Dead Nation, Alienation and of course Resogun, which is Defender’s “spiritual successor”. What makes his and our philosophy resonate is that we both think that games should be first and foremost fun, fast and brutal.

“We stayed in touch, he played Resogun and when we asked if he wanted to do something together he jumped on board without hesitation.”

Nex Machina is the official title of the secretive Jarvis Project. The game is set in a time where humans have become more and more addicted to technology, and machines have evolved to conscious entities with their own feelings. The problems began when robots surpassed mankind’s abilities and refused to be servants.

The player is humanity’s final hope.
