Following last night’s covert announcement of a delay to the release of Mass Effect 3, EA’s top brass have been speaking about the move out of holiday 2011 release window during the publisher’s overnight earnings call Q&A.
Regarding Mass Effect 3, Frank Gibeau, president of the EA Games Label, said: “We have some announcements at E3 that I think everybody will be excited about in terms of some feature innovation and some new ways to play Mass Effect.”
EA CEO John Riccitiello added that BioWare “is adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features, which we’ll see at E3, that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter meets RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 began to approach.”
He concluded: “So we’re huge believers in the intellectual property. And we are purposely shifting it to address a larger market opportunity.”
BioWare has previously denied Mass Effect 3 will feature multiplayer modes, but new ways to play Mass Effect suggest we could be seeing some kind of multiplayer element.
Failing that, perhaps the game will be 3D enabled or possibly even made to work with motion controls.
