The Halcyon Corporation, which owns the rights to the Terminator franchise, has announced the formation of a new division to develop Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
The video game is in development alongside the production of the upcoming movie, both of which are to be released in 2009. Work on the game began several months ago, with a member of the development team working alongside the movie production crew in Budapest.
“We don’t want the game to be the stepchild to the film,” said Halcyon executive Derek Anderson. “They’re of equal importance, and we want both to be of the same quality and be the same compelling experience.“
According to IMDB.com, the new movie will continue where Terminator 3 left off: “John Connor and soon to be wife Kate Brewster realize they must create a resistance organization with Earth’s remaining survivors against the army of robots slowly being built up by Skynet. As they are building this resistance, one survivor happens to be a traitor in disguise, and has a secret that nobody would ever come to suspect.“
Halcyon isn’t stopping with Terminator, it also has first-look rights to the works of Philip K. Dick, the novelist who created Blade Runner, with plans to release games based on his book beginning in 2010.
