GSC Game World has announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, a new standalone entry in the well received PC first-person shooter series.

The events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The government, having discovered the open path to the Zone centre, decides to hold a large-scale military “Fairway” operation aimed to take the CNPP under control.

The operation fails, and in order to collect information on reasons behind its failure Ukraine’s Security Service send their agent into the Zone centre.

GSC promises all new monsters, an extended system of side quests, a new player interface and a freeplay mode which becomes available on completion.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is scheduled for release on PC in autumn 2009.
