Sony has delivered a new update to the PSN store, and it now lets players write reviews for games just like on Steam. Sony has allowed consumers to rate games out of five, and recently Ghost of Yotei impressed players so much that it debuted to a near-perfect rating. These ratings result in an aggregate, but now potential buyers can read what players think instead of just seeing a collection of stars.

PSN store update lets players write reviews

As noticed by Push Square, an update has rolled out across the PSN store letting players write reviews for games. This is only for the web browser, so, if you wish to write a review, you will need to sign in on the PSN store website.

You can still give a game a rating out of five stars, and then you can publish a review no longer than 4,000 words. As for reading reviews, you can filter between game editions, the amount of stars, and between most recent and most helpful.

To prevent review bombing, “Every review comes from a verified owner of this game”. In addition, each review “is evaluated by a team of moderators”. If we look at Ghost of Yotei just because of recency, its Deluxe edition currently has a 4.84 aggregate based off 26,716 ratings. There are only two pages of written reviews so far, and most of them are five stars.

One of the five stars reviews reads, “Fifty hours in and loving every minute. Storytelling, visuals, and game play are outstanding. I’ve been Sucker-Punched again!”. Meanwhile, the only one-star review says, “I can only give the game 1 star for the poor support after the first patch. Played the game for 4 hours on Friday and Saturday, tried to play again on Saturday and now all i get is a black screen. I have tried everything to get the game to run but it won’t”.

In addition to Sony’s steps to prevent review bombing, it’s possible to report a review “if you think it’s inappropriate”. The ability for players to write and post reviews onto the PSN store is neat, but it’s way too new to fully appreciate. Until it’s been around for at least a few months, we won’t realize how far censorship through Sony’s “team of moderators” extends beyond inappropriate language, racism, and other issues that would rightfully get reviews scrubbed.

In other PlayStation news, a renowned AMD leaker claims the plan is for the PS6 to release in 2027 “unless any unexpected delays happen”.
