A new Plants vs Zombies game is in development for release on console and PC in early 2016, EA has announced.

The new game is due to launch between January and March 2016, although further details have yet to be confirmed.

It isn’t even clear whether the game will be similar to last year’s multiplayer shooter spin-off Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare or a return to the original game’s tower defense gameplay. EA simply refers to the game as ‘Plants vs Zombies: TBA’.

More may be revealed during EA’s latest financial call tonight, but if not, expect to hear more about it during next month’s E3.

UPDATE: EA has described the new game as a “bigger and bolder” experience, with more to be revealed at E3.

“After Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare became a sensation last year with console players young and old, we will be returning to the Plants vs. Zombies universe with a bigger and bolder new console experience in FY16 that we’ll share more about at E3,” the publisher said during its financial call earlier this evening.
