It had been previously confirmed that Mario Kart DS would feature over 30 tracks which can be raced against seven opponents wirelessly or three opponents online, and now, the game’s producer, Hideki Konno, has revealed that the series’ much loved battle modes will also be playable online.
As well as fifteen completely new race tracks, Mario Kart DS will feature several other new features not seen before in a Mario Kart game. No longer will arguments ensue when your mate selects your driver of choice. For the first time ever the same character can be selected by more than one player, with the character’s colour changing to ensure you know who is racing who. It has also been revealed that you will be able to customise the kart’s paintwork with designs made using a simple paint program in the game. I wonder if this will prove as popular as it has in Forza Motorsport on the Xbox.
A Mario Kart game has to include power-ups and Mario Kart DS brings some new and old pick ups to the table. Returning to the series is the feather from the SNES version, allowing you to hop about. One of the more unique features is a balloon, which you blow up by blowing into the DS’s microphone. We have no info on what the purpose of this balloon is, but it sounds like an interesting addition.
