A new version of the retro gaming iCade and a mobile friendly iCade Mobile have been announced by ION.

The iCade Core features the same joystiq controls found in the original device, only now the cabinet has been dropped in favour of allowing the iPad to be used in portrait or landscape orientations. The iCade Core should launch this year.

For gamers wishing to bring buttons to their iPod or iPhone, the new iCade Mobile could be just the ticket. Set for release in Q2 2012, the iCade Mobile turns your mobile device into a traditional handheld, offering four shoulder buttons, four face buttons and a dpad. The dock also allows for landscape and portrait modes. You’ll pay $80 to get your hands on one.

iPhone or iPod touch gamers wanting a true retro feel but unable to stretch to an iPad and iCade, can look forward to the iCade Jr, which is essentially the classic iCade (complete with cabinet) shrunk down for use with the smaller devices.
