After years of waiting, new footage has been shown of the fan-made Fallout: Bakersfield, an impressive remake of the original RPG in the GZDoom engine.

Created by modder Alexander “Red888guns” Berezin, the latest Fallout: Bakersfield teaser shows off a truly gorgeous recreation of the original games’ filthy, brown, pre-rendered style in a new first-person view.

Fallout: Bakersfield looks downright incredible

Shared on YouTube, Berezin’s latest trailer shows off four-minutes of sweet gameplay of the upcoming Doom-based remake.

The trailer focuses on the Necropolis sequence from Fallout 1 complete with a terrifying first-person boss fight against the hulking super mutant Harry. It all looks incredible, but it’ll still be a long while until we can actually play it.

The Doom-based Fallout mod is as faithful to the original games’ style as possible for a first-person game. The Doom HUD complete with groaning faces makes a return albeit with the bonus of the green text-box from the old Interplay RPGs, giving you more details about the surrounding area.

Berezin’s trailer explains that the mod is currently 60% complete and later teases a potential release date of sometime in 2027. By that time, we might even have our hands on The Elder Scrolls 6, but Fallout 5 is still many years away.

It’s an incredibly ambitious mod and something entirely unique. While we have seen Fallout DOOM projects in the past, the sheer level of artistry on display here is a step above anything else. Someone put me in a freezer and wake me up when it’s done please. Just don’t kill my wife and child while I’m in there.

According to numerous leakers, there’s a tonne of official Fallout projects in the work, and there’s always more fan projects spinning up. Fallout 3 Remastered is allegedly in the works at Virtuos, the team behind the brilliant Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Alongside that, Fallout 5 is said to have entered pre-production, likely releasing sometime around 2030… if we’re lucky. Finally, the TV series is set to receive its second season which will return to the city of New Vegas and act as an official sequel to the events of Obsidian’s brilliant spin-off RPG.
