Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 disc format can’t be read by all Xbox 360 consoles, the platform holder has confirmed.

According to Microsoft, a “very small number” of consoles are affected. However, a Kotaku report states that MS will replace those consoles with an Xbox 360S with a 250GB hard drive and a 12 month subscription to Xbox LIVE.

The new disc format – promising an extra gigabyte for Xbox 360 games – will be readable by most Xbox 360 consoles following a firmware update which will begin rolling out tomorrow.

Assuming Microsoft can keep on top of the situation by replacing problematic consoles, there’s no reason for this to become a major issue.
