A new Call of Duty is set for Q4 2013, Activision announced during its financials conference call last night.
“The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher,” said CFO Dennis Durkin.
“Also in development for the Call of — for the franchise is Call of Duty Online for China, in partnership with Tencent. Tencent created the Free-to-Play action game model in China and is working closely with us to optimize Call of Duty for Chinese fans.”
No details on the game were announced, meaning the title, setting, developer, and platforms remain a mystery. Expect it to arrive on as many platforms as possible around November.
If the next Call of Duty, which barring a radical shift in direction will be Modern Warfare 4, isn’t released across current-gen and next-gen platforms, we’ll be shocked. In recent years Microsoft has demoed CoD during its E3 conferences, so a demo running on the new console hardware at E3 or earlier is surely on the cards.
