A Dengeki Online report, translated by GameLife, has revealed a new air combat game for Wii from the developers of the hit Ace Combat series.

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces from Namco Bandai is based on the new film of the same name by The Ghost in the Shell director, Mamoru Oshii. The film is scheduled for release in Japan on August 2 and is based on a series of novels that follow a group of dogfighting pilots in a fictional World War setting.

Made specifically for the Wii, controls will focus on using the Wii-mote for the throttle and the Nunchuck as the control stick. The game will take inspiration from the novels and film, but will feature an original storyline.

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is scheduled for release in Japan this autumn. There’s currently no word on a European release.
