Netflix’s The Witcher executive producer Tomek Baginski revealed that viewers may be surprised by how much Triss and Vesemir feature in the series’ storyline (via Comicbook.com).
Much of the promotional material for the anticipated adaptation has revolved around the Witcher Geralt, the sorceress Yennefer, and the empress-to-be Ciri. The Continent is crammed with fresh and familiar faces, and The Witcher series will follow “really human stories” anchored in horror instead of fantasy. It’s led fans to wonder what role the secondary characters will play, especially given that The Witcher will draw inspiration from the books rather than the games.
Comicbook.com was able to pose that very question to executive producer Tomek Baginski, who responded with an intriguing answer. "So not to spoil much, but one of those characters is just supplementary and the other is quite prominent, but don't want to say which one," he explained. The first series of Netflix’s The Witcher will follow the events of The Last Wish. Neither the mage Triss nor the warrior Vesemir feature frequently in that book’s storyline, but the adaptation has chosen to diverge from this fact.
I’ve gone onto The Witcher’s IMDB entry. Looking at the cast list, I find that Triss—played by Anna Shaffer—will be in all eight episodes of the first series. I can’t see Vesemir anywhere on this outline, though it’s possible that his character’s actor hasn’t been officially added at the moment. However, what I imagine to be all of the production staff have been indexed, including the number of episodes they worked on. This is either an oversight, or the character of Vesemir will be mentioned but will never actually appear in the series.
Sorry, Ves. I still think you’re cool. Netflix’s The Witcher will release on December 20.
