Need for Speed: Underground 2 topped the Xmas Chart in 2004, Need for Speed: Most Wanted topped the chart in 2005, and according to the odds for the 2006 Xmas No.1, Need for Speed: Carbon will make it a hat trick of Xmas number ones for the Need for Speed series.
Paddy Power bookmakers put Carbon as the runaway favourite for the No.1 spot for the week ending December 23, with odds of 8/13. You won’t get much return on your money there, but there are some outsiders with much longer odds.
FIFA 07 is second favourite and at 4/1 looks a good bet. Moving onto the real outsiders we have Gears of War and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas both at 10/1. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is priced at 33/1, and is unlikely to feature that highly in the chart. It might have been a different story had the game been released in the Xmas chart week.
If you’re someone to back a complete outsider then how about Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Party Edition at 250/1 or Happy Feet at 80/1?
Prices are obviously likely to change to reflect where the money is going and how games perform in the run-up to Xmas. We’ll be sure to keep readers posted.
