At Gamescom, a 4K gameplay video of Need For Speed: Heat shows off day and night racing, the suitably speedy new cars, and the intense cop chases coming to the next game (via IGN).

Palm City looks very pretty, with hefty helpings of neon lights and woozy sunlight to overclock the visuals as drivers vie for a podium position. Even crashes are quite the spectacle, and it seems that you can obliterate nearly every environmental asset on the boulevards. Swerving into cop cars will earn you Heat, so the game really encourages you to risk it all for the greatest possible rewards.

In addition, creative director Riley Cooper revealed new zoomy features and details coming to Need for Speed: Heat in a chat with IGN. Firstly, new cars will be released each week in the lead up to the game’s launch, and players can choose any car to race with in any event. The nitrous oxide system is yet another customisable feature, with the option of three small bottles or one bigger one of N2O.

Crew Trials will pit players against the ghosts of other players in the overworld. As for your Crew, players will be able to form their own or be automatically slotted into a group of 32 players. The Palm City police department become exceptionally aggressive when Heat increases, and will lay out spike strips, road blocks, and will even deploy Rhino vehicles and helicopters to take you down. And, your loyalty is firmly decided; players will not be able to race as a police officer.

Need for Speed: Heat will launch on November 8 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Watch the 4K gameplay video footage below.
