MMO developer and publisher NCsoft has purchased the Seoul-based mobile gaming company Hotdog Studio.

The publisher has taken control of the company after purchasing 58.3 per cent of its shares, as part of its continuing push into the mobile sphere.

NCsoft has previously worked on mobile apps such as Aion Exchange which allowed users to manage their inventory, auctions, and characters from the MMO Aion. The firm is currently working on a mobile element for the upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2, which will allow users to chat to players and view real-time maps from their phone.

Hotdog studios opened in 2007 as a division of HuOne Inc., only to become an independent developer in 2010.

The mobile gaming platform has increasingly become an interest to publishers and developers. Recently id Software’s John Carmack stated mobile devices could replace consoles entirely.
