A Guild Wars 2 beta is scheduled for the second half of 2011, according to NCsoft’s chief financial officer, Jaeho Lee.

During a conference call, the MMO powerhouse – the developer behind Aion, City of Heroes and Lineage – hinted at a 2012 release date, adding afterwards that a beta was on the way, too.

“Starting from year 2012, we believe substantial growth will be driven by new blockbuster titles like [Blade & Soul] and Guild Wars 2. Also, Guild Wars 2 will go into beta testing stage in the second half of this year,” Lee revealed to investors.

The recent Lion’s Arch trailer reveals the game to be in good shape, showing off fantastical architecture and some impressive visuals. VideoGamer’s resident MMORPG’er Emily Gera saw the game back in September, summing up her experience in a Guild Wars 2 preview.

Good trailer, no? After trying (and failing) to get into Final Fantasy XIV, I’m now pinning my hopes on Guild Wars 2 as my next massively multiplayer experience. 2012 still seems a ways off, however, so news that a beta will land before the year’s out fills me with excitement.
