Namco has announced today that it has acquired the license to produce games based on Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer franchise.
The long-term deal covers the production of PC games as well as console and handheld games, so perhaps we’ll see a few titles that aren’t simply Warhammer based RTS games?
Clearly a bit pleased by the event, Grantly Day, director of PC development for Namco Hometek inc commented, “‘Warhammer’ is considered among the greatest fantasy gaming brands in the world.” Perhaps suggesting we won’t see those non-RTS games for a while, he added, “We plan to extend its rich characters, environments and lore to the video game arena, with some blockbuster titles for the PC.”
Hopefully the future of the Warhammer brand will be rosy then, for both consoles and PC’s. We’ll have more news here at Pro-G as we hear it.
