The PlayStation 3 Resistance 3 bundle features a graphic on the packaging for a mysterious new feature called “PlayStation Pass,” which some believe to be Sony’s version of EA’s Online Pass system.
Besides the PlayStation Pass graphic is a message: “Network features only available in countries that have PlayStation Store.”
That doesn’t really give much away.
Sony’s yet to comment, but PSN Pass could well be Sony’s way of enticing new game purchases with online access granted via an in-box code. Those buying the game used will have to purchase access to the online portion from the PlayStation Store.

With EA and many other third-parties such as THQ and Warner already doing this it seems only natural that Sony will introduce something similar. In fact, Sony’s already been dabbling with the ‘Online Pass’ idea with games such as ModNation Racers and SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 on PSP.
