Cheaters and hackers have long been a prevalent issue in any CoD title and MW2 is no different. Although the introduction of the RICOCHET anti-cheat system has lessened the frequency of these exploits, players are now facing an entirely different issue.

The abuse of the in-game report system has become a huge problem recently due to the ease with which it can be used. If a specific user becomes the target of this feature’s misuse, it can cause them to become falsely banned.

Some players have even taken to Reddit to share their unfortunate experiences with these issues. One particular post has given others a glimpse into the appeal process that needs to be undergone before banned accounts are reinstated.

The image embedded into the thread shows an official message from CoD stating that the player’s account is under review. However, it seems that the evaluation is taking longer than usual based on the poster’s caption.

There also doesn’t seem to be any indication as to when the review process will end which leaves innocent users unable to play the game for an indefinite period of time. A majority of comments under the same post either agree with the OP or have gone through similar circumstances.

One response had this to say about he prevalent false bans: “The huge issues is the system is flagging a ton of people to be shadow banned. Then the system deep dives into your account and sees no wrongdoing and removes the shadow ban (green light).”

The same reply then continues with the following statement: “You go into the game and fire a single shot at anyone and get immediately shadow banned again. It’s a never-ending loop.” Apparently, shadow bans are even worse than regular ones because the former can’t actually be appealed.

Hopefully, Activision and Infinity Ward are able to find amicable solutions for these banning problems soon in order to help out those unfairly affected by the misuse of this system.
