Multiversus developer Player First Games has announced that they will finally be closing down their game’s Open Beta period on June 25, 2023. This statement comes as a surprise to players of the platform fighting game as most had already spent money on microtransactions while operating under the assumption that it wouldn’t shut down any time soon.

A large portion of the fan base also seemingly had no idea that the game was only in its pre-release phase since numerous patches, several bundles, and a handful of characters had consistently been introduced in the many months that it was available. With this in mind, some are speculating that this could just be an excuse to take the game down due to dwindling player counts as they’ll seemingly be launching it again some time in early 2024.

Based on the statement made by Player First Games co-founder Tony Huynh, Multiversus servers will be taken offline once the previously mentioned date comes around. This means that you will no longer be able to access and use the cosmetics you’ve bought while competing against other players online. However, you will apparently still have “limited offline access to the training room known as The Lab,” where you can practice your moves while wearing the outfits you’ve already purchased.

Unfortunately, the promises and compromises made have done nothing to prevent the community’s disappointment. Most are even asking for refunds after learning of the game’s closure since they won’t be able to play the game for over half a year.

It’s currently unclear what the developer’s plans are for the popular cartoon crossover fighting game. Hopefully, they reveal some of it soon as their devoted player base may just end up abandoning Multiversus entirely while it remains unavailable.
