Microsoft has confirmed to Edge Online that despite recently laying off Games for Windows Live boss Chris Early, it will continue to invest in PC gaming.

A statement from Microsoft issued to Edge read: “Moving ahead, Microsoft will continue to invest in Windows as a first-class gaming platform through great Windows out of box experiences, our online gaming services including Games for Windows – LIVE, MSN Games, and Messenger games, and through new games for Windows developed by Microsoft Games Studios.”

The Windows gaming business will now continue under the leadership of two executives, general manager Ron Pessner and Dave Luehmann, a long time Microsoft games veteran.

Despite its commitment to PC game development, Lionhead recently confirmed that it is not working on a PC port of Fable II. Likewise, Ensemble told VideoGamer.com that Halo Wars would not be made for the PC.
