With the mantle of saving the Xbox 360 in Japan, a lot rests on Mistwalker’s Blue Dragon. Early signs are promising though, with Famitsu reporting that over 180 gamers were queuing up outside the game’s official launch spot Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara, Tokyo, yesterday morning.

At 9am the first copy of the game was sold, and Microsoft hopes many more will follow. According to Gamefront.de, Microsoft is hoping to sell around 200,000 copies of the game in Japan, which is actually more than one copy of the game for every Xbox 360 sold in Japan – as of the end of November only 176,000 Xbox 360 consoles had been sold in Japan.

If any game is going to spark an interest in the Xbox 360 then Blue Dragon looks the most likely. The game has gained quite a lot of hype because of the large fan base of Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Origami, who also designed the characters in the game.
