Speaking to Edge Online, Evolution Studios has revealed that its PlayStation 3 off road racer pushes Sony’s next-gen system to the max.
“We are still just learning the ropes with the PS3, and there are still plenty of tricks to be learned,” said Nigel Kershaw, lead designer and design manager. “Yes, we are pushing the performance of the PS3 to the max, but you can look at our track record with WRC1, where we were pushing the performance to the max, and then compare it to WRC5, which was in a whole different league in terms of visual and performance quality.“
Answering questions concerning the game’s Western release, the Evolution Studios team revealed that the goal is to get 16-players online, but this may have to be cut just short to ensure good performance.
“Currently we have 12-player; recently we had 15 but we’ve had to cull this. We’re still hoping for 16 but we can’t commit to that right now,” said Matt Southern, product manager who also confirmed that the game will support “either USB headsets or Bluetooth wireless sets.“
Just because a feature hasn’t been included in the boxed copy of the game, it doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be delivered over the internet at a later date.
“… as PS3 games continue to grow ‘beyond the box’ via downloadable content, every game is ‘not quite finished’, so expect more as time goes on,” said Simon Benson, producer.
