Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced a March 16 release date for MotorStorm Apocalypse – likely to be March 18 in the UK.

The game is the third entry in the series to arrive on the PS3 from developer Evolution Studios.

The news comes from a post on the Official European PlayStation Blog by Matt Southern – Games Director, Evolution Studios.

While we get the game in Europe from March 16, US gamers will have to wait until April 12 to get their hands on the 3D compatible title.

MotorStorm Apocalypse has impressed at preview events over the last year and its 3D is among the best we’ve seen on the PS3. As the third game in the PS3 series (Arctic Edge, developed by BigBig, arrived exclusively on PSP/PS2) it’s a big game for Sony to release early in the year and should stand out amongst a wave of multi-format releases in the first quarter of 2011.

It’s worth noting that the 3DS is expected to arrive in Europe in March, so Sony will be hoping the handheld’s arrival doesn’t overshadow Apocalypse’s launch.
