Sony Computer Entertainment has announced MotorStorm: Apocalypse, set for release exclusively for PS3 in 2011.

The third PS3 game in the popular racing series leaves behind the mud of Monument Valley and the tropical island of Pacific Rift, in favour of The City. This isn’t just any city, though, but an abandoned coastal city which has been hit by a tremor.

The game is no longer just about winning, it’s about fighting to survive the dangerous and always changing, makeshift city race tracks.

Players will pick a vehicle from one of 13 classes, including supercars, muscle cars, superbikes, and even choppers, then choose one of 40 unique races while looters and military contractors fight for what is left of the city. No track is ever the same, with hundreds of explosive real-time dynamic events changing the environment as races unfold.

In single-player mode, stories are told through the eyes of three different characters, each of whom offers a different difficulty level.

Also on offer will be four-player split-screen and 16-player online racing, or combine the two with four players on one system heading online. Also included is a Game Mode Creator which lets players create, share and play totally new game experiences from scratch.
