SEGA today announced that Virtua Tennis 2009 will support the new Wii MotionPlus accessory, allowing players a greater level of control than previously possible.

When Wii owners attach a Wii MotionPlus accessory to a Wii Remote, Virtua Tennis 2009 on Wii will offer an increased level of immersion through the ability respond more accurately to the swings and shots of each player. With Wii MotionPlus the shots you play in your living room are mimicked by your on screen character.

In addition to determining the direction of each shot, Wii MotionPlus will allow slice to be played with a simple twist of the wrist, while an upward motion will lob the ball over the opposing player’s head.

Virtua Tennis 2009 is scheduled for release on Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in May 2009. The Wii MotionPlus accessory will be released in Europe on June 12.
