If you thought video games couldn’t get any cooler, Mortal Shell 2 is here to prove us all otherwise. Following the slightly middling original game, developer Cold Symmetry is back with a brand-new sequel that looks so much cooler than it has any right to be.
Mortal Shell 2 is effortlessly cool
Announced during the Summer Games Fest, Mortal Shell 2 is another Soulslike action game for modern platforms. However, it seems that developer Cold Symmetry has not only improved upon every aspect of the original game, but also made it the coolest, most hardcore game I’ve ever seen in my life.
Kicking off Geoff Keighley’s annual gaming celebration, Mortal Shell 2’s debut trailer shows a frantic, metal-as-hell take on the Soulslike formula. There are creatures made of bones, there are fat monsters with big Bib Fortuna heads you can jank and beat them to death with, and there are guns you can shoot.
At the time of writing, very little is known about this upcoming sequel. However, from what we’ve seen, one thing is sure: it’s going to take a long time until I see something that channels my inner Kerrang-reading 15-year-old self more than this.
Mortal Shell 2 is currently scheduled to release sometime during 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. No Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has been revealed.
