Midway has already stated that Mortal Kombat Armageddon will be the last in the series on current-gen hardware, and it isn’t going out without a bang. The game is being released complete with four limited edition sets, each with a different metallic cover.

Arriving on PS2, the premium editions will be packaged with a metallic cover, one featuring the original box art, the others featuring pairings of Kano and Sonya, Sindel and Shao Kahn, and Johnny Cage and Goro. Gamers will get more than a shiny box though – the set will also come bundled with a full version of the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 arcade game, one hour of bonus videos, and animation cell cover art autographed by Ed Boon.

There’s no official word on the Mortal Kombat Armageddon premium editions arriving outside of North America, but standard editions are scheduled for release later this year for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The recently announced Wii version is planned for Q1 2007.

In more recent news, the Mortal Kombat 1 System Requirements tell us there’s a lot to look forward to with the latest edition.
