Japanese gaming giant Capcom has cancelled a public lecture on the performance optimisation of Monster Hunter Wilds following a slew of threats from gamers online.
Monster Hunter Wilds launched last year to unparalleled success for the series, but the game’s PC port has been largely criticised for performance issues. While the PC issues still exist, Capcom was set to hold a lecture at Japanese game developer conference CEDEC, but has since pulled out following online hate.

Via Automaton, the public development lecture was called “Monster Hunter: Wilds runs smoothly! Everything you need to know about optimization” and was set to discuss the performance optimisations made specifically for the game.
The talk was set to occur after the release of the game’ s Free Title Update 2, but that update introduced even more performance issues to the game. After the release of the patch, Capcom was met with heavy backlash from upset players.
While the performance issues introduced in Free Title Update 2 have already been fixed, for the most part, the lecture was cancelled.
Capcom has not stated whether or not the event’s cancellation is tied to the massive backlash on social media, but it appears so. However, the studio has released a statement condemning the harassment of its employees working on its games.
“We take customer opinions and requests seriously, as they are indispensable for improving our products and services, and we strive to improve quality,” the company said. “On the other hand, we have confirmed instances of slander, libel, denigration, intimidation, threats to harm or disrupt business, and harassment against our executives and employees by name.”
Capcom explained that “in severe cases”, the company will contact the police to take legal action against particularly nasty users who attack workers.
Alongside Monster Hunter, Capcom is also hard at work on the next entry in its long-running Resident Evil series. Dubbed Resident Evil Requiem, the upcoming horror game began life as an open-world multiplayer title, but is now a true entry in the series with both first and third-person views.
