With all the talk of increasing game development costs for the next generation of consoles, analysts are predicting an increase in the standard price of games. Surprise, surprise. If anything, with all publishers banging on about the rising cost of development, this was only a matter of time. In America this will likely translate into a $10 increase per game, though if history is anything to go by, we stand to get hit even harder.
The most worrying aspect is that an average cost of between $10-15 million development will make it difficult for anybody other than the major publishers to create games. This could mean an increased reliance on licensed properties, and a much lower risk-taking attitude. Lets hope it’s not quite that bad…
