MLG’s Spring Championship event proved to be hugely successful, with 4.7 million unique online viewers reported to have tuned in over the weekend.
By comparison, all the 2011 Pro Circuit weekends achieved a combined 3.5 million unique viewers.
Other impressive stats include:
- More than 2.2 million unique online viewers on Championship Sunday alone.
- 437,000 peak concurrent online viewers – the previous MLG record was 241,000 for the 2011 National Championship.
- More than 5.4 million hours of video consumed.
- More than 20,000 in person spectators.
It’s thought that the inclusion of League of Legends and the participation of Starcraft Brood War pros helped the event achieve such high viewer numbers.
At one point the finals for the StarCraft II and League of Legends events overlapped for a short time.
