Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has told fans to “have confidence” in the Vitality Sensor, the company’s upcoming peripheral for the Wii.

Nintendo’s Vitality Sensor, first revealed during its E3 press conference in June, is a finger sensor which attaches to the Wii Remote to read your pulse.

Reaction has been mixed, with some expressing scepticism over the potential the peripheral will for Wii games.

Speaking to The Mercury News, Miyamoto admitted that it would have been better to show off the Vitality Sensor as it would be used with games.

“Ideally we would have been able to talk about this in terms of the software implementation rather than just the sensor itself. I don’t have any indication for you (of what we have in the works) other than to say that we have lots of very creative ideas.”

He added: “We understand the challenge before us, and we have met these challenges in the past. We just ask that people have confidence in us.”

Don’t hold your breath. There’s no indication of when the Vitality Sensor will be out.
