EA DICE’s Mirror’s Edge is still to hit stores, but the developer is already talking about what it has planned next in the series – it’s only the first in a planned trilogy of titles.

“The story we’re telling at the moment is kind of a trilogy, a three-story arc,” O’Brien told AusGamers. “For these first couple games, it’s all about Faith. It’s all about her experience in the world.”

That’s not to say DICE will be cutting the cord once the Faith storyline is over. “I think there’s a lot of scope to take the story in different directions, or maybe tell someone else’s story,” O’Brien explained. “I think the world we’ve created, the city and the culture and the environment, is almost as interesting or more interesting than any one individual story.”

Also exciting is the possibility of a level editor to be included with the second game.

“The thing is, the game is so easy to play and intuitive, that creating a level editor is a skill in itself,” noted O’Brien. “If we do it, we want to make the editor as easy to use and intuitive as the game is.”

With LittleBigPlanet likely to open the door for plenty more user-generated game ideas, a level editor is likely to be a welcome addition by the time a Mirror’s Edge sequel rolls around.

Mirror’s Edge is scheduled for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 14. The PC version is expected later in the winter.
