Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, creator of the indie sensation Minecraft, has revealed that the game has now sold over 3 million copies.

“Minecraft just sold its third million copy!” said Notch on Twitter.

Minecraft is a sandbox building game that has taken the industry by storm since it was released in May 2009. The game only went on sale in December 2010 when it reached beta stage, however, so those 3 million copies have been sold in the space of seven months.

The full Minecraft release is to be launched in November, coinciding with the first annual Minecraft convention. MineCon will be held in Las Vegas on November 18 and 19.
