The first episode of Telltale’s Minecraft adventure Minecraft: Story Mode will launch digitally on October 13 and at retail two weeks later on October 30, the developer has announced.

The game will debut digitally on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, before heading to iOS and Android on October 15. The series will launch on Wii U and PS Vita at a later date.

The physical version will ship with the first episode on disc, and digital access to the four later episodes as they become available to download. The disc is currently available to pre-order for around £23.99, although the price of individual episodes has yet to be announced.

“One of the greatest things about this project is that it gives the community a chance to interact with the world of Minecraft in a new and different way,” said Mojang’s brand director Lydia Winters.

“It also marks the beginning of some exciting narrative-form content based on our game. We worked directly with Telltale on every step of the process. Together we’ve created a blend of the amazing narratives that Telltale creates with all the fun and adventure you know and love from Minecraft. It’s got everything: creepers, crafting, an incredible cast of characters, and even an adorable pig. How awesome does that sound?”
