Minecraft has now accumulated sales of over 2.5 million copies, creator Markus Persson has announced.

“2.5 million sales! That’s as much as Diablo 1 and FarCry, according to Wikipedia,” he Tweeted.

At the time of writing sales stand at 2,500,308 copies, meaning 27 per cent of the 9,219,785 registered users have bought the title. In the last 24 hours, 49,023 people registered, and 10,941 people bought the game.

In related news, Persson has said that plans for a MinecraftCon could lead to a slight delay to the game’s official release.

“Looks like we need to change the release date for Minecraft to be able to get a good venue for MinecraftCon. 11/11/11 is fully booked. One week later, perhaps? I’ll post more details as soon as we’ve decided and booked a venue,” he explained in a blog post last week.

The Minecraft beta can be purchased now for €14.95.
