Minecraft: Pocket Edition is in development for Windows Phone, Minecraft lead developer Jens Bergensten has confirmed on Twitter.
“Yes, Minecraft: Pocket Edition *is* coming to the Windows Phone! The port runs already, but there’s still much to do before any release,” Tweeted Bergensten.
There had been a suggestion that the port is a result of Microsoft’s recent $2.5 billion acquisition of Mojang and Minecraft, but Bergensten says this isn’t the case.
“Let me clarify: With the help of MS, we’ve been working on a MC:PE Windows Phone port for a while, already before MS bought Mojang. Ok? =)” he explained.
To date a staggering 21 million copies of Minecraft have been shifted on mobiles.
