EVE Online, Minecraft, and League of Legends are the latest victims of internet pranksters LulzSec.
The sci-fi MMO, indie world builder, and DOTA-style RTS game all went offline yesterday after DDoS attacks from the hacking crew – an event dubbed “Titantic Takeover Tuesday” by the group.
LulzSec claims to have accidentally knocked out the EVE Online website as part of its attacks on the game’s login servers, a feat it later repeated with League of Legends.
In response, EVE developer CCP Games took the whole game offline as a security precaution.
“Silly Eve have taken their entire network offline after our very simple DDoS attack. Oh well, another day, another lulz!” said the LulzSec Twitter feed.
Minecraft, which recently saw sales reach 2.5 million copies, also found its multiplayer login server buckle under the weight of a DDoS attack.
The group also claimed responsibility for taking gaming website The Escapist offline.
“And that concludes our DDoS party: Escapist Magazine, Eve Online, Minecraft, League of Legends + 8 phone requests,” said the group.
LulzSec is amassing quite the list of victims, with the ‘Lulz Cannon’ being fired at Bethesda, Nintendo, and Sony over the last few weeks.
