The developers of the award-winning Shovel Knight have delayed their newest game, Mina The Hollower, and a new release date is yet to be confirmed. Mina The Hollower was one of the most anticipated games set to come out in October, to the point where we even listed it amongst five indie horror games to play this Halloween. Obviously, this listing was before the unfortunate delay. While the postponement is disappointing, the good news is that the developer promises “the game is so close to being done”.

Shovel Knight devs delay new game Mina The Hollower

Yacht Club, the developers of Shovel Knight, were set to release their newest game, Mina The Hollower, on October 31st. Unfortunately, on October 7th, Yacht Club announced that they have made the “tough decision” to delay from Halloween.

Although it “isn’t a major delay,” Yacht Club’s announcement says the postponement is to “apply some final polish and balancing to make the game truly shine”. While offering an apology for the delay, Yacht Club “will not waver on [their] commitment to quality” as the “goal is to make sure [the] development team has the time and resources to deliver an incredible adventure”.

Unfortunately, no new release date has been announced. This is because Yacht Club “don’t want to announce another release date until it’s submitted to platforms, so please hang tight”. While we will have to wait for a new release date to be announced, the developer insists that the “game is so close to being done”.

Thanks to the delay, the development team will be working on the following areas:

  • Finalizing design, art, and sound
  • Overall game balancing
  • Implementing localization
  • Eating cheese
  • Testing, testing, testing… on all platforms!

The delay of Mina The Hollower is disappointing, but, fortunately, October is full of new video games to play. There’s Little Nightmares 3 set for October 10th, the same day as the release date for Battlefield 6. There has also been the release of the phenomenal Ghost of Yotei, and October 21st will finally see the launch of Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines 2.
