Microsoft has said that it’s taken on board criticism aimed at the dashboard on the Xbox One, and the Xbox One X dashboard will prioritise performance over features. The focus is on streamlining the whole user-experience, with a big focus on pins rather than tiles.

Speaking in an interview with VG247, Microsoft’s vice president of Xbox and Windows, Mike Ybarra, spoke about the launch of the original Xbox One, saying, ‘We had a lot of just general improvement to do in terms of the UI and the responsiveness of the UI.’ To be fair to Microsoft it has tried to improve this over the years, but the additional features have bogged down an experience that was slow in the first place. The switch to the new design will remove a lot of the unnecessary stuff that was pushed onto the home page and should also speed things up considerably.

These performance improvements will make their way across all the Xbox One family of consoles, and those with the original Xbox One will see an enhanced user experience. Ybarra confirmed this, saying that, ‘We designed this UI to be across the whole family and to only use a static amount of system resources so that even on S and the original Xbox One it runs absolutely great.’

There’s no confirmation on when this dashboard will be released for all the Xbox One consoles. It’s still very much in the test phase, but Ybarra did say that, ‘It’ll change as we listen to feedback and get more feedback from people, but we’re streamlining it. Performance is always the top of the line for us in terms of what our prioritisation is.’
