It was Microsoft’s decision to shut down the Xbox 360 version of free-to-play shooter Warface, not Crytek’s, the developer has claimed.

In fact, the developer says that it is “sad to see the game leave… Xbox 360”.

“With Microsoft acting as publisher for Warface on Xbox 360, we are bound by their decision to phase out the game on their console,” a Crytek representative told Game Informer. “We appreciate their efforts in supporting Warface up to this point, but, like the many players we’re hearing from, are sad to see the game leave from Xbox 360.”

A post from the game’s community team on the Xbox forums explained that Microsoft is “always evaluating our portfolio to ensure that the experiences available on Xbox suit the needs of our community. Player demand and creative direction sometimes mandate that we shift our focus onto other games and opportunities.”

The rep added that it “can’t give [a] definitive answer at this time” as to whether the game will eventually arrive on Xbox One.

“We cannot thank you enough for the time and attention you’ve contributed to this community,” the rep concluded. “It has been a privilege to play together and fight Blackwood, and we look forward to meeting again, in new ways, a controller in the hand.”
