Microsoft has opened registrations for the 2013 Xbox LIVE/Xbox 360 dashboard update public beta.

The beta offers successful applicants the chance to try out the latest Xbox 360 update ahead of its official release, which boosts “overall performance” and switches the Marketplace currency from Microsoft Points to real-world cash.

Xbox 360 users can apply to be a part of the beta through the ‘Xbox Beta Program’ tile on the dashboard. Microsoft warns that space is limited, however, and the beta will be closed to the public once the spots are filled.

It isn’t yet known when the beta will launch or when the new dashboard update will be publicly available, but further details are expected to be released later today.
