The security of Xbox Live has come into question recently following reports that several user accounts have been hijacked and used to purchase Microsoft Points with the attached credit card information.

Recently, there have been reports of fraudulent activity and account theft taking place on the Xbox Live network,” a Microsoft representative said in a statement provided to CNET News.com. “Security is a top priority for Xbox Live, and we are actively investigating all reports of fraudulent behaviour and theft.

According to several Xbox Live account holders, it’s about time Microsoft took the problem more seriously.

My Xbox Live account was hacked and all credit card info was stolen and used to run up points…Microsoft says: ‘Oh, well, better call your credit card companies, nothing we can do,’” wrote a disgruntled customer on the Xbox.com forums.

There are also reports of users being tricked into passing on their information when playing a game or being taken in by phishing scams to gather account details. Microsoft advises all Xbox Live users not to give out personal information such as your real name, address and other personal info when online.
