Microsoft has announced the development of Age of Empires Online, the latest entry in the 20 million selling real-time strategy series. The new PC exclusive will allow gamers to create a living world online and share it with friends. Starting with the Greek civilisation, you can watch as it grows from a small village to an empire.

AoE: Online features a persistent online capitol city, cooperative multiplayer quests, trading, a level-based progression system and online play via Games for Windows – LIVE.

You can sign up to take part in the beta on the official Age of Empires: Online website.
