The new Specialization in Game Design and Development program, which begins in September, will give those wanting to work in the videogames industry a grounding for a future career.

Game development is a very hot industry right now,” said Brian Winn, co-founder of the program. “It’s an important program for students who want to go into this as a career. Games have been an important medium in our culture and important to study.

The program will be aimed at students who are enrolling in computer sciences and other related courses, and will be offered as an academic minor, providing students with 15 credit hours.

We’ve been actually offering many of these courses for several years but we decided to package them in a sequence of courses,” Winn said.

Initially the program will only be offered to 80 students, but the numbers may increase with popularity.
