Snake is to bow out on the PlayStation 2 with one last hurrah, as the three-disc extravaganza that is Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence finally makes it to Europe in October.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, which is already available in Japan and the US, features an advanced version of MGS 3: Snake Eater, complete with a 3D camera system allowing the action to be viewed from almost any angle – something which will be the norm in the franchise’s PlayStation 3 debut.

On disc two you’ll find a fully fledged online game allowing for up to eight players to partake in a host of game types. Kojima has created ‘Sneaking Missions’, ‘Capture Missions’, ‘Rescue Missions’, ‘Death Matches’ and ‘Team Death Matches’, all of which are set in a variety Snake Eater environments, plus new areas such as Lost Forest and Killhouse.

The second disc also contains Duel Mode, which will give players instant access to the boss fights of Snake Eater. That’s not all disc 2 has to offer though – you’ll also be given pixel-perfect recreations of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, the games that began the franchise on the MSX back in 1987.

Rounding off the package is a three-and-a-half hour Metal Gear Solid 3 movie, created using the game’s cutscenes, additional radio dialogue and gameplay footage. There’s also a bit of shameless promotion for Metal Gear Solid 4 in the shape of the game’s full trailer.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is scheduled for release across Europe in October only on PlayStation 2.
