Metro: Exodus, the sequel to 2013’s Metro: Last Light, was revealed during Microsoft’s E3 presser and many thought it was going open-world due to the establishing shot at the end of the trailer below.

However, Executive Producer Jon Bloch told PCGamesN that developer 4A Games is ‘not moving away from the classic linear Metro gameplay.’ He added that Metro: Exodus will include ‘large levels that offer a lot more freedom, they’re non-linear, but we will have a story wrapped into them.’

While Bloch says players are afforded a decent amount of freedom, those going into Exodus expecting a completely free, open-world, should temper their expectations.

Metro: Exodus will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.
